Bad Vibes

June 24, 2008

Happily for all concerned, old Luke Haines is doing the decent thing and writing his memoirs. Bad Vibes: Britpop and My Part in its Downfall is apparently due for publication early next year. The book should have a certain charm, if his sleevenotes to the Das Capital “greatest hits” shambles are anything to go by. Haines reviews the Auteurs Vs µ-Ziq remix CD:

Remixes by some kid from Wimbledon for £500. A lot of money for a teenager. Never listened to it myself. Went on to sell well in America. 100% of the publishing goes to me.

I remember a fine moment in the mid-90s when Haines took out an advert in Select magazine to tell the readers to vote for After Murder Park in the end-of-year readers’ poll. When the readers instead voted for things like Kula Shaker and Cast, Luke took out another advert to give Select‘s readers a firm but not unreasonable telling off.
